Introduction to Laboratory

The laboratory was built in 1989 and specializes in the scientific research on atmospheric chemistry.

The laboratory is positioned to:

  1. Discuss the rules on emission, generation, migration and transformation of the atmospheric ingredients formed by human activities and natural procedures, such as trace gases and aerosol,

  2. Research the climate and environmental changes caused the variation of their density and distribution and their effects, and research the corresponding counterpolicies and measures on such basis so as to provide the scientific rationale for the government on making the decisions in terms of ecological and environmental protection and adjustment and control and for resolving the relevant international disputes.

The concrete researching directions and tasks of the open laboratory on atmospheric chemistry are:


1.The quality control & analysis and application of the station information on atmospheric composition, and the main tasks include: the research on the quality management and evaluation technology of the operation of observation stations for atmospheric composition, the research on the procedure of atmospheric sedimentation and its effects.

2.The observation technology on atmospheric composition: The main tasks include the observation and research of the atmospheric photochemical pollution and precursors, the research on the comprehensive observation technology of aerosol, and the research on the observation of aerosol, cloud and radiation and their mutual effect.

3.The numerical forecasting of chemical climate: The main tasks include: the research on the mechanism of mutual effects of atmospheric chemistry-aerosol-cloud-radiation, the research on the photochemical pollution and climate, the research on the remote-sensing inversion of atmospheric composition and the research on the theory and methods of chemical climate forecasting.

4.The mechanism and effect of the variation of atmospheric composition: The main tasks include: the research on the greenhouse gas and the relevant trace compositions, the features of physical-chemical structures of the atmosphere in the middle-upper part of troposphere and stratosphere and the research on the mechanism of its variation and the climate and environmental effects, the research on the climate effect of aerosol and its effect to the recovery of ozone sphere and climate.

The main advantageous fields of Key Open Laboratory on Atmospheric Chemistry are:

1.The network-based atmosphere becomes the observation platform for its relevant features, obtaining the high-quality data with good representativeness on greenhouse gas, aerosol, reactant gas, total amount of ozone and precipitation chemistry, and it also performs the research on the mechanism and effect on the variation of atmospheric variation and evaluation of the spatial distribution and variation tendency of atmospheric composition.

2.The laboratory also researches and develops the numerical forecasting mode on atmospheric chemistry and meteorology in terms of online coupling, verifies and improves them based on the network observation information, establishes the method for atmospheric composition assimilation and forms the mode and system on numerical forecasting of chemical weather with perspective of business application.
