Introduction

The Ecological and Agricultural Meteorological Test Station of Gucheng of China Academy of Meteorological Science was established in 2003 and its precedent was Gucheng Agricultural Meteorological Test Base of China Academy of Meteorological Science. It is located in Dingxing County of Hebei Province to the southeast of Beijing and it is 110km far from Beijing; the occupation area of the station is 15 hectares, in which the area of land for scientific research and business use is 9.5 hectare. Under the direct instruction of the leaders and experts of China Academy of Meteorological Science, as well as the care of the relevant functional departments of China Meteorological Administration, the scientific research and business capabilities of the station are developing greatly in these years; the conditions for fundamental scientific research businesses have been improved greatly, and the relative complete agricultural (ecological) meteorological supervision systems have been constructed gradually. Currently, it is undertaking the work of ecological and agricultural meteorological observation, the atmospheric composition observation, multi-disciplinary comprehensive testing base and other functions, as well as the field test of key national and departmental projects.

The development direction and positioning

The Ecological and Agricultural Meteorological Test Station of Gucheng has been working for the meteorological warranty for national grain security as well as the frontier for the development of agricultural meteorological science in the world; it performs the long-term positioning observation, field test and environmental control test as for the ecological and agricultural meteorological problems occurring in the agricultural production in North China Plain; it also provides the observation data and scientific research support for the research and verification of the agricultural meteorological indexes of the crops in Northern China, the supervision and effect evaluation for the agricultural meteorological disaster and the research on the effect of the climate and environmental change to the agricultural production. The main research directions are:

 (1) the agricultural meteorological disasters, and it mainly includes the test and research on the supervision and alarming technology, effect evaluation technology, risk evaluation and management technology of main agricultural meteorological disasters, the disaster-causing procedure and affecting mechanism and the preventing and controlling measures.

(2) The responding and adaptation of agriculture to climate change, including the high-effective and sustainable utilization technology of agricultural climate resource and water source and the practical technology of agricultural meteorology under the background of climate change, the coupling of the simulating mode of crops and regional climate mode and the technology on the evaluation of the effect of climate change, the demonstrative research on the responding procedure of regional crop to climate change and the adaptation technology in the future; besides, it will also provide the platform on testing, mid-term testing, popularization and application for the new observation and supervising methods and technologies on agricultural meteorology, and provide test field and information support for the development and application of the numerical mode for crop growth.

Development destination

 In the future it will reinforce the capability construction and team construction continually and increase the capabilities of observation and testing and logistical support, determine the research direction in a further step, consummate the researching team, reinforce the management system construction and construction the station in Gucheng into the demonstrative station and comprehensive research base for agricultural meteorology of China Meteorological Administration, the talent cultivation base and mid-term test base for businesses, and finally the base will be constructed to the national-level agricultural meteorological engineering and technology center.
