> Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences and UNEP deepen collaboration in fields of climate research
Recently, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS)and Science Division of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) have officially signed memorandum of understanding MOU in a bid to promote collaboration in terms of fields climate research, disaster risk assessment, climate capacity building of developing countries, and will set up a mechanism to deepen cooperation via regular convening bilateral meetings."
Both sides will jointly consolidate climate science research, and provide scientific support for climate service, climate information system and others elevate meteorological scientific research level and hydro-meteorological service capability, assisting climate monitoring and foreting solidifying applied research in disaster risk assessment, impact pre-assessment, monitoring and warning system, climate risk information and early warning information dissemination, and so on, to enhance the resistance capacity in face of climate change, climate risk, and climate-related disasters.
UNEP exerts a huge impact in ecological environmental conservation and response to climate change. Science department of UNEP carries out work involved with relevant research and implementation of environmental and climate projects.
UNEP and CAMS embrace shared objective in aspects ramping up environmental data, information and knowledge, management and application capacity harnessed for early warning, planning, policy making, and relevant action. The signing of the MOU will consolidate, prompt and specify the bilateral cooperation and benefits, to realize the common goal in climate field. UNEP attempts to explore further cooperation with China Meteorological Administration CMA in other sectors based on the collaboration with CAMS. Feb. 24
