> UNEP Officials Visit CAMS
On October 24, 2019, Mr. Jochem Zoetelief, Chief and Senior Program Officer of Climate Services and Capacity Building Division, Science Department of the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP, and Mrs. Xiaoran Hao, an accompanying officer, visited the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences CAMS.

At the morning session, which was chaired by Mrs. Zhao Yanxia, a research scientist of the Institute of Ecology and Agrometeorology, CAMS, the two sides exchanged views on further implementation of follow-up international cooperation based on the previous efforts made so far for the memorandum of understanding MOU to be signed between CAMS and UNEP. It was begun with an overview of CAMS by its president, Prof Duan Yihong, including its research interests and international cooperation projects, and followed by Jochem’s description of UNEP in terms of its TOR, international cooperation projects, demands and opportunities for potential cooperation with CAMS. In addition, an overview of the international cooperation on the part of the China Meteorological Administration CMA was given by the executive of the International Cooperation Division, Department of the International Cooperation DIC of CMA and that of the international training sponsored by CMA in recent years by the executive of the International Training Division of CMA Training Centre CMATC respectively.

In the afternoon, in Mrs. Zhao’s company, the UNEP officials visited several CMA facilities and centers before they participated in a seminar on multi-hazard early warning chaired by Zhao and attended by staff invited from other relevant organizations the Beijing Office of the World Meteorological Center WMC-B, National Meteorological Center NMC, Public Meteorological Service Center PMSC and Huayun Corporation, who briefed on what they did in international cooperation.

The visit has enhanced mutual understanding as a good contribution to the groundwork for further cooperation.
